Sara Young has been at Waterloo Counseling Center since November 2019. Sara is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Born and raised in Austin, TX, Sara completed her undergraduate studies in English Literature and Technical Theatre at Sam Houston State University, in Huntsville, TX. She completed her Master of Arts in Counseling degree at St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX.

Sara discovered she has a passion for the helping professions while living in NYC, and returned to her hometown of Austin, TX to pursue her counseling career.

Sara has a relational cultural approach to therapy and employs the use of many modalities and interventions. This eclectic perspective allows fluidity to therapy that mirrors the fluidity of human experience. Sara is a trained practitioner of TBRI (trust-based relational intervention) and EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing).

Sara is passionate about meeting you where you are and being an ally on your journey through self-actualization. Sara works to provide you with tools to understand your thoughts, and emotions so you are better able to manage and be in relationship with them in productive and healing ways.

Sara enjoys spending time with her dog exploring in the outdoors, as well as, cuddling on the couch watching a good show. Sara believes in the power of storytelling through art and the healing resonance that comes with authentically seeing yourself represented in media. Sara has a zealous belief in the power of play, as well. So, please, engage playfully with your day, your community, and most importantly your own spirit.
